Bioiberica's native type II collagen is a nutritional supplement for joint health.
1. What is collagen?
Collagen is the protein that holds the different tissues in our bodies together: from joints to tendons, muscles, skin, and ligaments. Its task is to be one of the main elements to assist the human body to work properly, providing structure and helping tissue regenerate.
2. Types of collagen
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and is found particularly in joints, tendons, and skin, but not all collagen is equal. There are up to 29 different types of collagen, although 90% in our body are types I to V.
Of these five, the best known are type I and type II collagens. Type I collagen is present in skin and provides hydration and flexibility to facial tissue, and is the one most recommended when talking about cosmetic formulations and treatments. Type II collagen –at Bioiberica we are specialists in this type – is found in cartilage tissue and is increasingly popular among people who want to take care of their joints.
The inclination towards health and how we deal with it is changing rapidly. Just a few years ago, joint health and mobility was an issue entirely related to old age, now 70% of the population recognizes that there is a link between health, mobility, and quality of life.
For many people their motivation in seeking to make lifestyle changes is to achieve long-term goals and this also holds true for Bioiberica. That is why one of our lines of work is joint health to promote mobility whatever the age.
3. Collagen as a nutritional ingredient
Collagen is a widely used ingredient in nutritional supplements for joint health.
As an active ingredient, collagen can be found in two forms:
4. Native collagen, undenatured collagen
The term native refers to the fact that the collagen molecule retains its biologically active form and has not been modified or denatured during the manufacturing process. In contrast, in the process of obtaining hydrolyzed collagen, the collagen molecule is broken down into smaller units called peptides.
Collavant n2, Bioiberica's native type II collagen, is non-denatured collagen, that is to say, it preserves all its original properties, for the purpose of helping to keep joints healthy.
5. Holistic health perspective
Consumers are looking more and more at health from a holistic perspective, regarding health as the sum of various factors, with mobility being one of these.
To this end, having solutions that incorporate multiple ingredients is essential to meet all mobility-related needs, including bone, joint, tendon and muscle health.
Health care is experiencing a prosperous period: consumers require a type of product and companies are choosing the best solutions so that taking care of your health is not just something for your old age.
Holistic innovation is in our hands, although we must bear in mind that taking care of ourselves goes far beyond food supplements. Taking care of oneself is synonymous with maintaining a balanced diet and staying clear of ultra-processed foods. Taking care of oneself also means having an active lifestyle, not being sedentary and saying no to harmful substances such as tobacco and alcohol.
