Earth is facing unprecedented natural resource usage, significant and potentially irreversible changes in its climate, and a constant loss of biodiversity that threatens the stability of the living systems the planet depends on. This situation is accentuated by the growth of the global population, which is predicted to reach more than 9 billion people in 2050.
Leading international organisations are starting to implement initiatives to face this challenge: the Paris Agreement on climate change and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are coherent with the lines of action promoted within the European Union framework, such as the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan presented in March 2020.
The Circular Economy model is thus brought forth as an innovation in the production and consumption system. This model aims to maintain and strengthen socio-economic development, including sustainable job creation, without compromising ecosystem functions, while at the same time preserving natural resources for present and future generations.
In addition, the Bioeconomy seeks to pave the way toward a more innovative and competitive society, which uses biological resources more efficiently and balances food safety and the sustainable use of renewable resources with industrial needs, thereby ensuring the protection of the environment at the same time.
Bioiberica is a vertically integrated company, focused on the extraction of high-value biological and therapeutic molecules. Today we have more than 100 products that improve the health of people, animals, and plants. In this sense, the Bioiberica production system acts as an authentic biorefinery extracting the greatest amount of value from each molecule present in animal tissues. Just like oil refineries obtain a wide range of products (liquid and gas fuels, tars, monomers for plastics, etc.) from crude oil, we here at Bioiberica extract everything from active pharmaceutical ingredients (heparin, chondroitin sulphate, etc.) to protein extracts for animal nutrition, while also producing biostimulants for Plant Health using co-products of animal origin generated by food industries.
But, in addition to using biologically-sourced raw materials, our processes are too. Bioiberica has developed the biological Enzyneer® technology. This technology is capable of obtaining L-α-amino acids and bioactive peptides with maximum bioavailability and biosecurity as the result of enzymatic hydrolysis which generates protein fragments with an average size of 600 Da, eliminating any possible viral or prionic structure.
Based on these raw materials and processes, Bioiberica’s products contribute to livestock (Animal Nutrition) and agricultural (Plant Health) production, ensuring the sustainability of food production systems. Highly concentrated hydrolysed proteins and nucleotides contribute to preserving animal welfare against the harmful effects of stress and help producers to optimise the sustainability and profitability of their businesses, while our biostimulants strengthen the capacity to adapt to climate change in stressful situations, progressively improving the soil quality.
Bioberica’s production strategy is thus based 100% on the Circular Bioeconomy. Starting from 100% biological raw materials and using processes designed to reduce water, energy, and auxiliary raw material usage to the greatest extent possible, we get end products that are 100% organic, efficient, and sustainable.
At Bioiberica we are convinced that the principles of sustainability, economic efficiency, social equality, and environmental responsibility will guarantee our company’s continuity and drive us into the future. That’s why we want to continue strengthening our Circular Bioeconomy strategy in order to improve the health and welfare of people, animals, and plants, while at the same time improving the global health of the planet.
