Barcelona, June 30, 2014. The food supplement Mobilee has been announced as one of the finalists for the World Dairy Innovation Awards hosted by the FoodBey Media international publishing group. These awards give recognition to the most innovative ingredients, products, brands and media campaigns within the field of everyday consumption products.

Mobilee is a rooster extract rich in hyaluronic acid, polysaccharides and collagen that improves joint mobility and muscular strength. It has been developed in the world for the first time by Bioberica, a Spanish biotech company specializing in the osteoarthritis and joint care. They intend to add this new ingredient to a complete range of everyday consumption products, such as dairy products.

“We have carried out three clinical trials, and reached the conclusion that dairy products supplemented with rooster extract improves mechanical and muscular function of joints, and that it improves pain in people suffering from joint pain,” said Daniel Martínez, R&D manager of Bioiberica’s Human Health area. Furthermore, Bioiberica has carried out additional stability, security and toxicity trials that determined that the rooster extract is a secure and stable product that does not modify the taste or the smell of the food it is added to.

“We are used to seeing and consuming food supplemented with calcium, omega3, bifidus or vitamins that helps us to stay healthy. But until now there were none for joints”, he added.

It is estimated that in Europe there are more than 15 million active people, aged 40 to 65, that suffer from joint pain. In the US, this figure reaches 19 million people. Furthermore, according to the WHO, by 2020 osteoarthritis will become the fourth most common cause of disability worldwide because of the progressive aging of the population.
