  • The first dedicated seminar on elbow dysplasia was held on October 4
  • The lecture was presented by renowned experts Carlos Macías and Alfonso Chico

On October 4, 2018, the first dedicated seminar on elbow dysplasia was held at the Ars Veterinaria hospital in Barcelona. This is a high-level training course, born out of the cooperation between Bioibérica and Ars Veterinaria, and is designed for veterinarians with extensive experience in trauma and orthopedics treatment.

The seminar included the participation of two renowned experts of international prestige: Carlos Macías, from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, who specializes in small animal surgery at the Centro Veterinario de Referencia Bahía de Málaga (orthopedics and trauma, neurosurgery), and Alfonso Chico, M.V.M. degree in surgery at the University of Glasgow and founder of the Centro Quirúrgico Veterinario Alfonso Chico from Corunna, where he currently works.

The seminar provided answers to a number of different questions and issues in relation to elbow dysplasia: is it a single disease with multiple faces? How has our understanding of elbow dysplasia changed in recent years? Are there new ways to classify elbow dysplasia? What practical tips can we follow to carry out a correct orthopedic and radiologic exploration?

Alfonso Velasco, director at Bioiberica’s Companion Animal HealthCare, and Josep M. Closa, director of the surgery and trauma department of Ars Veterinaria, completed the symposium’s program by presenting new approaches for the treatment of osteoarthritis and moderating the subsequent debate with the attendees.

As the hosts pointed out, “in this symposium there was a high-level of interaction between attendees and lecturers-we even lacked enough time to answer all the questions raised during the discussion, which opens the possibility of future installments of events like this”.
