The future holds many challenges for our society, particularly regarding the health and nutrition of people as well as the preservation of our environment. Traditionally, we are a global heparin manufacturer, an anticoagulant that's essential in preserving people's health, distributed to a large number of countries around the world. We are therefore a key company in the area of human health.
The raw materials for heparin are natural products obtained from pork processing industries. Once the main product has been extracted, a material remains that's processed and used in its entirety. Various co-products are also obtained from this process, including waste water which is partly recycled and reused. We plan to increase the recovery of such co-products, following the principles of a circular economy.
In line with this strategy, it manufactures products for animal feed such as highly digestible and palatable protein sources, which promote feed intake and provide animals with the perfect combination of amino acids and bioactive peptides for their needs. Animals given this type of feed are healthier and better able to withstand attacks from common diseases, thereby requiring fewer antibiotic treatments.
Some of the most significant products marketed by the company are biostimulants for different crops. These are used in agriculture as a complement to fertilisers. Thanks to such biostimulants, plants are stronger, make more efficient use of the fertilisers applied and, above all, are more resistant to pests and diseases, reducing the need for phytosanitary products. Biostimulants are therefore helping us to progress towards more sustainable agricultural practices that require fewer synthetic chemical products.
Bioiberica has the same goals as the "One Health" strategy, which recognises the interdependence between human, animal and plant health and their shared ecosystems. But it's also contributing towards the production of food, both of animal and plant origin, whilst also providing stockbreeders and farmers with the means to work sustainably.
It's only possible for a company to position itself effectively in all these areas if it has a permanent strategy of innovation-oriented research to meet the needs of a wide range of customers. And the only way to achieve this is through an interdisciplinary team in constant collaboration with research centres, both public and private.
Bioiberica's objectives, as a global company in the life sciences sector, are fully in line with the "One Health" concept. Moreover, we carry out continuous, multidisciplinary work in various fields of science and technology to promote environmental sustainability, a circular economy and food production, being committed to tackling the challenges facing our society.
