The UTGC will be held the 14, 15 and the 16 October in Melenara beach (Telde, Gran Canaria).

Telde, September 1, 2011. Now that the countdown to the Ultra Trail Gran Challenge (UTGC) 2011 is on, the UTGC organizing committee and Bioiberica announced today the creation of an special prize for the first Canarian to cross the finish line of the “Trail Always on the Move Challenge” vertical race. This hard race is one of the five categories of the increasingly demanding Ultra Trail Gran Challenge (UTGC).

The UTGC will be held the next 14, 15 and 16 October at Melenara Beach (Telde, Gran Canaria). The competing categories for this year are:

1. The flagship race which lends its name to the entire competition is the 176km- “Ultra Trail Gran Challenge”. It is awarded four points by the selection committee of the Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc.

2. The 90km-long “Trail Always on the Move Challenge” vertical race. It is awarded three points by the same committee.

3. The 50km-long “Great Descent Marathon”

4. The 28km-long “Medium Extreme”

5. The usual trek to Melenara.

Bioiberica’s Sport Nutrition” Division wants to help make come true the dream of the first Canarian sportsman or sportwoman to complete the 90km- long race and to climb 9,842 meters in less than 24 hours. This special prize will cover the costs (up to a maximum of €6,000) of participating in any competition in the world of his choice.

Mr. Antonio Lobo, President of the Vantrail Mountain Sports Club (the entity organizing this event) has commented that “as Canarians, is an enormous satisfaction for all of us to count on the collaboration of Bioiberica, as this prize will encourage Canarian sportspeople to undertake challenging competitions of this type”.

The special prize will be presented by ultrasportsman Josef Ajram, who confirmed its participation in this race. Ajram commented about this prize that “it is a spectacular and highly innovative idea, because the practice of this type of sports is expensive and it does not enjoy ample economic support”.

Dr. Daniel Martínez, from the Bioiberica’s Human Nutrition R+D Division, has commented: “For Bioiberica, sponsoring the UTGC proves our company’s commitment to sportspersons”. He also added that “it is a commitment based on the research and development of joint health and immune protection products for sports lovers”.
